Palm Pre April 30th Launch Date

Palm Pre April 30th Launch Date

It’s far from an official word, but then again, everybody is using Twitter nowadays. A Twitter conversation from Jim Van, CEO of Logicomm, indicates that someone (probably from Sprint) said that the Palm Pre will be released on 4/30. Of course, there isn’t any concrete evidence of this just yet, but considering that it’s not that far off, we’re hoping it’s true. In case you didn’t notice it in the picture, the tweet says:

@heeeyrold @dberube We do a lot of betas 4 Sprint. Also testing WiMax fones. Not sure if Pre is final. Release dte of 4/30, so I’m told..

@darthpooh79 Sprint claims that 4/30 is a line in the sand, according to my acct mgr there…he’s usually right on #Palm Pre

    Ad Gets Snowy When Texted

Can’t decide on a good marketing strategy? Well, you could always take a hint from the folks over at Tryvann Winter Park, which is a ski resort, about 15 minutes away from Oslo. An advertisement was put up with some fans and a bucketful of fake snow, and whenever it starts to snow at the ski resort, some kind user will text the billboard, and cause the fake snow to fly around, notifying folks how well the weather is some 500 meters upwards. We wonder whether anybody will try and abuse it and make the ski resort look like it’s perpetually snowing up there.

    LG Xenon Pictured

A leaked picture of the upcoming LG Xenon has appeared online, and it’s blurry, which is almost customary, if not mandatory. The device is rumored to hit AT&T’s network when it’s released. The rumored date is April 9th, so we’ve only got a short wait to confirm that. The OS of the device is said to be fairly similar with Samsung’s TouchWIZ, as it will rely heavily on Widgets. Features of the device include:

    Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
    Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz)
    950 mAh battery

    VGA camera for video calls
    microSD memory card slot
    100MB internal memory

  • Motorola Evoke QA4 Announced

    Motorola Evoke QA4 Announced

Motorola has certainly been floundering recently, and it’s certainly been looking to Google’s Android platform to save its bacon. Until Motorola actually comes out with an Android-powered device though, it looks like the Evoke QA4 will have to fill the gap. At a glance, it looks a lot like a cross between Apple’s iPhone and the Palm Pre. The device features a 2.8-inch touchscreen, but will the phone be able to stand up against the hi-tech phones of today? Somehow we don’t think so.

  • iPhone 3G Repair Costs Soar

    iPhone 3G Repair Costs Soar

Lots of people were rejoicing over the fact that Apple has started offering the iPhone 3G without a contract, albeit at a much higher price. While most people are prepared to shell out $599 and $699 for the 8GB and 16GB respectively, it’s a whole different issue to find out that the cost of getting replacement units for phones that have been dropped or exposed to water have gone up by $400 over the past few days. Previously the cost of replacing a non-warranty device would be between $199 and $299, depending on the model. After you found out the cost of fixing your iPhone 3G, will you still opt for the no-contract option?

    Zippo App For Your iPhone

Zippo and Moderati have announced that their free Virtual Zippo Lighter app for the iPhone has been downloaded over 3 million times since it was first released back in October, making it one of the most popular and prevalent branded applications in the App Store. It’s a simple app, but certainly one that you’ll probably download as soon as you get your hands on your iPhone. The average of 100,000 new downloads a week can’t be that far wrong, right?
