Not long after we’ve heard that the BlackBerry Curve 8900 may be coming to AT&T, now the giant blue carrier has officially confirmed the smartphone’s release.
Unfortunately, AT&T didn’t give us an exact launch date, but it said the Curve 8900 would be available starting “early summer”.
The handset’s price is also unknown, but I guess it will be of around $200 on contract.
As we’ve already said, AT&T’s Curve 8900 is similar to the one available via T-Mobile – although, of course, it will provide exclusive stuff like AT&T Navigator and free Wi-Fi at almost 20,000 AT&T hot spots.

Well, until AT&T actually releases the smartphone, you can read our BlackBerry Curve 8900 review here.

Although there were lots of details pointing to an imminent iPhone 3G release in China, it may still take a while until the smartphone gets to be officially introduced in the world’s largest mobile market.
According to China Tech News, Chang Xiaobing, China Unicom’s chairman, recently declared that negotiations between the carrier and Apple are still underway and they might not have the expected result.
Various Chinese sources pointed May 17 2009 as a possible iPhone 3G release via China Unicom, but now it seems that customers shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet.
Obviously, both Apple and the Chinese operator want to make the most out of iPhone 3G’s availability in China. Hopefully for Chinese mobile users, an agreement between the companies will be reached soon.

Opera Mini and Opera Mobile are currently Europe’s most popular mobile web browsers, and, apparently, Opera wants to conquer the US too.
According to Forbes, the Norway-based software developer wants to make a big announcement during CTIA Wireless 2009 (April 1-3, Las Vegas).
More exactly, Opera plans to unveil several major deals with North American carriers.
The carriers are not known for the moment, but they’re probably among the giant ones – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile.
It’s not clear yet if, following said deals, the US carriers will pre-load one of Opera’s mobile browsers on their phones. But that wouldn’t be a bad thing, right?
We’ll bring more on this as soon as new details pop up.

Zer01 Mobile is a new mobile network carrier that is launching a service that can offer unlimited mobile voice and data plans for just $69.95 a month, without having to contract yourself to a network like AT&T. Zer01 doesn’t use the traditional circuit-switched voice calling, rather it routes calls through proprietary VoIP technology, which is why users are able to get such a good deal on their rate plans. Currently, the VoIP application that powers Zer01 will be available for Windows Mobile 6, in the future, the network plans to support Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, Java and even jailbroken iPhones.

Looking for the BlackBerry Kickstart on Telus? Well, you’ll be fairly happy to hear that the device will be available on the carrier for just $50. Of course, such a price point means that you’ll have to agree to a 3-year contract, but that’s a fair bit of savings, considering that the phone is going for $449.99 contract-free.

O2, the exclusive iPhone 3G carrier in the UK, is rumored to be ready to offer the iPhone 3G for lower prices in preparation for a new version of the iPhone to come out sometime this summer.
Currently the 8 GB version is available for free on £44.05 a month contracts while the 16GB iPhone is free only on a £73.41 a month contract, but the rumors say the 8 GB will soon be free on £35 a month contracts and 16 GB will be free on £45 tariffs.
This is all unconfirmed at the moment, but it won’t be much of a surprise if true; after all, almost everyone is expecting a newer iPhone to come out this summer to continue the tradition of a summer release. Especially with news of OS 3.0 being announced this week, it’s usually a good indication of things to come.

In related news, another rumor circulating mentions that Orange may also begin selling the next-gen iPhone, thus ending O2’s reign of exclusivity in the UK.

The GCF (Global Certification Forum) has recently approved a new HTC handset, called XV6175. And, since the XV code is used by Verizon Wireless for its HTC smartphones, we can only conclude that the new handset will soon be introduced by the giant US carrier.
HTC XV6175 features quad-band GSM connectivity, thus it’s probably a smartphone with support for both GSM and CDMA bands (like the BlackBerry Storm 9530, for example).
This XV6175 could be one of the devices from HTC’s leaked 2009 line-up.
More exactly, it might be HTC Cedar, HTC Whitestone or HTC Twin (all of them are pictured below).

Of course, until Verizon announces the new handset, we can’t know for sure what’s with it, so let’s hope it will be officially unveiled soon.
