LG Renoir KC910 has been available in Europe since the end of last year, and now a Chinese version has appeared on LG’s official website.
Called LG Renoir KC910E, the new phone lacks 3G, so it only provides tri-band GSM connectivity (900/1800/1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE.
Of course, the rest of its features, as well as its design, are similar to the ones of the 3G Renoir.
So Chinese users will find in the KC910E a 3 inch touchscreen display with 240 x 400 pixels, an 8MP autofocus camera with Xenon flash, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, MicroSD card support and so on.

The retail price of LG Renoir KC910E should be of around 3,200 CNY ($470).

2.6GHz is probably becoming everybody’s preferred spectrum for LTE in Europe, but it looks like Finland is deciding to take another direction and use the 1800MHz band instead, a spectrum which carriers TeliaSonera, Elisa and DNA have already snapped up. The frequency is said to be better for range and penetration, so there will be less base stations needed. The problem remains that spectrum diversity will make hardware availability more of an issue, though since Nokia is in Finland anyways, we’re fairly sure getting Nokia to come up with 1800MHz devices shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

While there isn’t any official information of a new version of Apple’s iPhone just yet, an analyst from Lazard Capital Market stated that Apple has already planned the production of a 32GB iPhone, based on information from sources in the NAND memory industries. The rumor goes on to say that there will be 2 versions of the iPhone in 2009, one of which is a low end version, destined to head to Brazil, Russia, India and China. The higher end version will head towards North America and Europe. Will this rumor be accurate? Only time will tell.

Presented at MWC 2009 only as a concept, LG GD900 is now functional and, according to LG, it will be presented at CTIA Wireless this week (April 1 – 3, Las Vegas).
The main attraction of GD900 is, of course, its transparent, glass-made sliding keypad, but the handset has much more to offer.
It will come with LG’s S-Class Touch UI (like the Arena KM900) and a 3-inch touchscreen display that seems to have a WVGA (480 x 800) resolution.
The phone’s display supports several finger gestures, i.e. if you draw an M on it, the MP3 player will be launched; or, if you draw a circle, you can adjust the music volume.
Starting May, LG GD900 will be available for purchase in Europe and Asia. Its price was not announced, but it will probably be higher than the one of a regular touchscreen phone.

Stantum Technologies, known for its multi-touch technologies, has obtained a $13 million Series B funding which, according to their CEO, will be used to increase R&D capacity for the next generation sensing technologies and new products, to develop a worldwide sales and marketing organization in the US, Europe and Asia and to establish and increase mass manufacturing capabilities through partners.
As part of the funding deal, CDC Innovation, Auriga Partners and XAnge Private Equity, the three fund contributors, have had their representatives Valery Huot, Philippe Granger and Nicholas Rose respectively join Stantum’s board of directors.

Opera Mini and Opera Mobile are currently Europe’s most popular mobile web browsers, and, apparently, Opera wants to conquer the US too.
According to Forbes, the Norway-based software developer wants to make a big announcement during CTIA Wireless 2009 (April 1-3, Las Vegas).
More exactly, Opera plans to unveil several major deals with North American carriers.
The carriers are not known for the moment, but they’re probably among the giant ones – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile.
It’s not clear yet if, following said deals, the US carriers will pre-load one of Opera’s mobile browsers on their phones. But that wouldn’t be a bad thing, right?
We’ll bring more on this as soon as new details pop up.

We’re used to seeing blurry images of various leaked devices, but it’s certainly not every day that you get close-up pixelated pictures of rumored devices. Apparently this Android-powered Samsung device was unveiled at a Samsung dealer show over in Amsterdam. Word is that the device will have a capacitive touchscreen, 528MHz processor, a fair amount of internal storage and microSD card expansion. The phone will supposedly have quad-band GSM and be available in UMTS 900 and UMTS 2100 for the US and Europe respectively. Are you looking forward to an Android-powered Samsung device?

Soon, you would not have to walk very far to see a movie. For as low as £2.99 you will soon be able to rent a movie (for 24-hours) to watch on your mobile phone; for £4.99 you will be able to start your very own mobile phone movie archive, as you’ll be able to keep it! Samsung, in their effort to develop an ecosystem around their devices, is making that possible when it launches its mobile phone movie store powered by Acetrax. The store will debut very soon with 500 movies, adding another 1000 movies as well as TV shows before June 2009. The UK and Germany have been chosen to start this movie service, with plans for the service to be extended into the Europe later this year. There is no indication as to whether the service will cover Windows Mobile phones but with Acetrax a supporter of Windows Media Player, we are optimistic. Samsung recently also launched its own application store.

Officially announced at the beginning of January 2009, Sony Ericsson W508 is not yet available for purchase. But it should be starting Q2 2009, both in Europe and in the Americas (as W508a).
Now we’re hearing there’s a Sony Ericsson W518a in the making, which looks similar to the W508 and it also has the same specs.
The novelty is the fact that the W518a also has A-GPS – a feature not present in the W508.
There’s no image with the W518a yet, but since it’s like a W508, the new clamshell should look like this:
Needless to say, Sony Ericsson W518a is targeted for America, although there’s no info on when it will be launched. There might be a W518 version too, for Europe and Asia – but that’s obviously not confirmed.
We’ll have more on this as soon as new details emerge.

Although Samsung’s Android intentions are not a secret anymore, the South Korean giant has still not announced any handset powered by Google’s open source OS.
Well, not officially, because today, during an online event held in Amsterdam, Samsung showcased what seems to be its very first Android smartphone.
The available image shows a full-touch device with rounded edges and some buttons on the lower side. Sadly, the picture quality is simply awful, but hey, at least we now know the handset’s overall aspect.
Details about the features packed by Samsung into its first Android device are scarce. It’s said it has a responsive capacitive touchscreen (of unknown resolution), quad-band GSM connectivity, HSDPA / HSUPA connectivity, a photo camera and memory expansion slot.

Stuff like Google Maps, Gmail and advanced Web browsing capabilities should also be in there – since the smartphone is an Android one.
The handset will most probably be released in Europe and the US, but for the moment there’s no clear info about this.
