We knew that the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G was going to be announced this month and, well, the smartphone is now finally official.
Sadly, T-Mobile USA will only sell its second Android handset starting early August. However, the carrier’s current customers will be able to pre-order it as of July 8 and thus receive it sometime later that month. The smartphone’s price is of $199.99 with a contract agreement for two years.
As expected, the MyTouch 3G will be offered in three color versions: white, black and merlot.

Unlike its predecessor (T-Mobile G1), MyTouch 3G doesn’t have a hardware keyboard, so it’s slightly thinner.
The new smartphone obviously features stuff like Google Search by voice, Google Maps with Street View, YouTube and Picasa access and so on. It is highly customizable (including apps like Sherpa) and it comes with a 4GB card in the box.
Other than that, the specs of MyTouch 3G are similar to the ones of HTC Magic: 3.2 inch touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels, GPS, Wi-Fi and a 3.2MP camera with autofocus and video recording.
The official website of T-Mobile’s MyTouch 3G can be accessed here.

A phone named after the great Harry Houdini has to be a cool one, right? Add a touch of Android, plus Samsung’s know-how, and you probably have a real winner there.
What am I talking about? Well, it looks like T-Mobile USA is getting ready to launch a so-called Samsung Houdini later this year.
The handset is part of T-Mo’s Android line-up, and, according to a document found at CellPhoneSignal, it will be released sometime in the fall, several months after the G2 / Magic / MyTouch 3G.
Details about the Samsung Houdini are scarce for the moment, but the handset looks somewhat similar to the Samsung i7500 – so it might be its US edition.
The above-seen document also unveils the possible contract price of MyTouch 3G: $179 – just like the current price of T-Mobile G1 (which, by the way, will be sold for only $149 starting… this month?).
All in all, good news for T-Mobile’s subscribers in the US.

Google certainly looks like it has been sitting on the Cupcake update for quite a while now, and we know that most of us are an impatient lot. The good news is a blogger called haykuro has successfully ported the software from the upcoming HTC Magic (G2) over to the current G1. It might be a little trickier than clicking a button or two, but if you’ve fiddled with firmware updates before, it shouldn’t be too hard. The additional bonus for all your hard work is that the APNs for T-Mobile USA and AT&T already come pre-loaded in the software. Once you’ve got this Cupcake update installed, you’ll probably care a lot less about when Google decides to release the Cupcake update.

Some of you might have already installed the Cupcake update for your G1, and as far as feedback goes, the update is certainly worth the trouble of getting it ported and installed on your device. It does seem that there is a little bit of bad news though. Folks with certain Cupcake builds are finding themselves locked out of the Android Market, which is certainly a deal breaker for many. There isn’t any official word on this just yet, but hopefully Google will relent and allow users who are running Cupcake back on the Android Market. The good news is that this ban only seems to be affecting one of two haykuro cupcake builds, as it is stated:
I want to clarify that this is currently only affecting one of the two haykuro cupcake builds. The “G” aka “google-sourced” line. There is a second “H” aka “HTC-sourced” line that is currently unaffected by this Market change. So if you get the “H” build, you’ll still have market access. For Now.

Word on the street is that the HTC Magic will be launched in the UK on May 1st, making it the 2nd Android device to go on sale. Users should be able to pick up the device for free if they agree to a £25 contract or higher. Though there aren’t any specific details of data plans, it’s assumed that there will be unlimited data packages being offered to users too. In case it slipped your mind, the HTC Magic will have a 3.2 megapixel camera, capacitive touchscreen, HSDPA, and GPS, albeit lacking the physical QWERTY keyboard like the T-Mobile G1.

Still hooked on Facebook despite the drastic (and stressful) user interface changes? Well, if you’re running a T-Mobile G1 and are still addicted to Facebook, you could always check out a new Facebook application for Android, which was launched by Macrospecs, called FriendMobilizer. The application allows users to access status control, notifications, photo access and others via the program. The app supposedly has a rather low memory footprint, and has photo uploads integrated into Android’s standard menu options. The application is currently available in the Android Market, and if you’re on Windows Mobile, there is also currently a free version for you.

We may not be getting an official Cupcake release for T-Mobile’s G1 in April, but that’s not going to stop videos of the upcoming Cupcake update from surfacing on the Internet. According to an Android Developer, Joey Sochacki, the current version of Cupcake is already pretty stable, and the Android team could possibly have a version of the software good enough for a public release in about 2-3 weeks time. Whether or not T-Mobile will offer it so soon is a totally different issue, of course.

Only two days after a blurry image with Samsung’s first Android phone was spotted, we’re now hearing the South Korean company is ready to launch the handset in the third quarter of 2009.
Samsung’s first Android device is said to be similar to the HTC Magic presented by Vodafone last month. This kind of confirms the fact that the leaked image of it shows a real handset.
Unfortunately, exact details about its features are still missing, so we’ll probably have to wait for an official announcement to know more about it.
Earlier this year, Samsung confirmed at least three Android devices for 2009, thus we should expect two more to come after the first one.
HTC, the company that introduced the world’s first Android smartphone (T-Mobie G1), also said it would launch two other devices powered by Google’s OS.
LG, Sony Ericsson and Motorola have Android plans too, so by the end of the year the competition in this market segment will finally heat up.

No, it’s not a calculated guess or a shot in the dark; more like a process of logical thinking. Who wants to bet that T-Mobile USA won’t be announcing its T-Mobile G2 at CTIA in April? The G2 – which some people claim is the same phone as the G1, just without a keyboard –appears to be definitely on the cards, it’s only a matter of timing!

Been waiting to get that black G1 at a bargain? Waste no time! Head straight for Amazon for a good deal! 82 Dollars less to be exact! You’ll have to agree to a 2-year contract, but with that kind of price point, it should be more than enough to help you make up your mind on the device.
