HTC Touch 3G With UMA In The UK?

HTC Touch 3G With UMA In The UK?

Coolsmartphone has tipped us on the news that the HTC Touch 3G will be hitting Orange UK, and if that wasn’t good enough, it seems that the phone will be shipping with UMA, enabling the phone to seamlessly transfer between GSM and Wi-Fi, which could amount to some serious savings for the end user. So far the only Windows Mobile device that supports UMA is the T-Mobile Shadow, which is available in the US. Will more Windows Mobile devices sport UMA in the future?

    Samsung Android Device Pictured?

We’re used to seeing blurry images of various leaked devices, but it’s certainly not every day that you get close-up pixelated pictures of rumored devices. Apparently this Android-powered Samsung device was unveiled at a Samsung dealer show over in Amsterdam. Word is that the device will have a capacitive touchscreen, 528MHz processor, a fair amount of internal storage and microSD card expansion. The phone will supposedly have quad-band GSM and be available in UMTS 900 and UMTS 2100 for the US and Europe respectively. Are you looking forward to an Android-powered Samsung device?

Sony Ericsson Banking On Camera Phones

Latest reports indicate that Sony Ericsson is going put its focus camera phones this year, which will certainly mean a strong emphasis on its C905 Cybershot camera phone. The quad-band GSM/EDGE radio on the device makes it compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile’s networks. Sony Ericsson seems to be banking that high-end photography will convince consumers to buy a new phone to replace their digital cameras; do you think that it’s a viable move in this economic situation?

  • Today, Pantech has announced the WPP-8000, a device presented as its first Wi-Fi enabled phone.

Launched via LG Dacom, one of South Korea’s largest high-speed Internet, voice and data services providers, the WPP-8000 is not a regular phone (like the GSM or CDMA ones).

It uses LG Dacom’s myLG070 service, allowing users to access the Web via a wireless LAN connection (called iHub) and get news, stock and weather information without extra data charges.

    pantech-wpp-8000

Pantech WPP-8000 also supports features like Caller ID and text messaging. As you can see, its display is not exactly the largest around, but it looks like all these kinds of phones have such small screens.

If the WPP-8000 is successful, Pantech will release similar devices in the future.

  • LG GR500 shows up, might be AT

LG GR500 is an unannounced QWERTY phone that seems to be AT&T’s LG Xenon (or Zenon).

The GR500 has just appeared in a small but semi-official picture, and we can see that, alongside the sliding QWERTY keyboard, it also has a full touchscreen display – just like the Xenon / Zenon prepared by AT&T.

As previously reported, the GR500 / Xenon / Zenon should come with a 2.8 inch TFT touchscreen display, GSM and HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, a 3MP camera and memory expansion slot

    lg-gr500

The new LG phone should be introduced by AT&T on April 10, for a price that’s not known for the moment.

We’ll probably see the handset released in Europe too, as LG GR500.

  • Telefónica and its subsidiaries (Movistar and O2) have apparently managed to strike a deal with Palm in order to exclusively sell the eagerly-awaited Pre smartphone in the markets where they operate.

According to the Spanish website Expansion, the giant international carrier will sell the Palm Pre in Spain, Latin America and the UK (via O2).

Reportedly, Movistar should launch the smartphone in Spain and several Latin American countries before the summer – but this has not been officially confirmed.

Of course, pricing details are currently missing, but Palm’s brand new smartphone will probably be offered for a wide range pf prices, depending on each country and each contract agreement.

    palm-pre-closed

Since Telefónica is mainly a GSM/HSDPA operator, its Palm Pre will be the GSM one we saw at MWC 2009.

As for the CDMA Pre, its release date is yet to be confirmed – but it’s a fact that it will be introduced by Sprint in the US, and probably by Bell and/or Telus in Canada.

Telefónica is currently the world’s third largest mobile carrier, and an exclusivity on Pre would surely give it some credit in the battle with the rival Vodafone (the world’s second largest carrier).

  • The GCF (Global Certification Forum) has recently approved a new HTC handset, called XV6175. And, since the XV code is used by Verizon Wireless for its HTC smartphones, we can only conclude that the new handset will soon be introduced by the giant US carrier.

HTC XV6175 features quad-band GSM connectivity, thus it’s probably a smartphone with support for both GSM and CDMA bands (like the BlackBerry Storm 9530, for example).

This XV6175 could be one of the devices from HTC’s leaked 2009 line-up.

More exactly, it might be HTC Cedar, HTC Whitestone or HTC Twin (all of them are pictured below).

    htc-xv6175

    htc-whitestone-w

    htc-twin-vz

Of course, until Verizon announces the new handset, we can’t know for sure what’s with it, so let’s hope it will be officially unveiled soon.

  • Gresso Lady Diamond Phone Announced

    Gresso Lady Diamond Phone Announced

If the Gresso Skeleton Gold didn’t appeal to your female friends, then you could always give the Gresso Lady Diamond a shot. If the name didn’t give it away already, the phone is geared towards the female crowd, specifically the female crowd who are able to pay $5,500 for a mobile phone. Of course, just because you’re flush doesn’t mean you’ll be able to get this mobile phone, as it’s a very limited edition and only 8 units are made. Your $5,500 does bag you a device that is made from 18k gold, 4 white diamonds and genuine leather. Of course, let’s not forget the transparent sapphire crystal cover at the back, which is almost a trademark for Gresso devices. In terms of technical specs, the Gresso Lady Diamond sports Windows Mobile 6 Standard, GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth, Music player and a 2-megapixel camera and 2GB of built-in memory. The Phone is currently available, though you’ll certainly want to move fast, especially if you take into account the limited number of devices made.

  • Several handsets from HTC’s 2009 line-up have appeared on the Web right at the beginning of the year, but back then there were no details on their specs.

Now we have more info about said handsets, including their possible release dates.

Let’s begin with HTC Firestone, which is said to be the successor of HTC Touch HD.

The Firestone should come with Windows Mobile 6.5 onboard and, apparently, it will be HTC’s first device to have an 8MP camera.

    htc-firestone

    Its other rumored features include:

    • 3.6 inch WVGA touchscreen display
    • GSM and HSDPA connectivity
    • 600Mhz Qualcomm 8250 processor
    • 256MB RAM and 512 MB ROM

It’s said that HTC Firestone will be announced in August 2009.

Next we have the HTC Whitestone, a handset that should be outed by Verizon Wireless in September 2009.

    htc-whitestone

Its features are said to include:

    • GSM and CDMA/EVDO connectivity
    • Windows Mobile 6.1 (that’s odd)
    • 3.6 inch WVGA display
    • 5MP camera
    • 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM
    • 528Mhz Qualcomm 7600 processor

HTC Thoth is another Windows Mobile 6.5 device, and it should come in September 2009 as the successor of HTC Athena.

    htc-thoth

The Thoth is rumored to feature:

    • A 4.8 inch WVGA screen
    • 5MP camera
    • 1000Mhz Qualcomm 8250 processor
    • 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM

Next on the list is HTC Tungsten, which should hit T-Mobile later this year. It’s basically a T-Mo version of HTC Touch Pro2.

    htc-tungsten

HTC Twin is a handset bounded for China Mobile (July 2009 is the month when it should be launched). It comes with GSM and CDMA connectivity, a VGA display and a 3.2MP camera.

    htc-twin

HTC Maple and HTC Cedar are two smartphones that come with 2.4 inch QVGA portrait displays and Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. Other identical specs include: 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM and a 528MHz Qualcomm 7225 processor.

    htc-maple

    htc-cedar

Apparently, the Maple is a GSM device, while Cedar is a CDMA one that could be prepared by Verizon for a June 2009 release (although it’s said it “may have been cancelled”).

Keep in mind that all the info from above does not come from official sources, thus we’d better wait for HTC to announce these devices until we can be sure about their specs and release dates.

  • It sure didn’t take long for Gresso to come up with yet another new luxury phone.

After the Skeleton Gold, the Russian company has now launched the Gresso Lady Diamond, a handset obviously designed for the ladies.

More exactly, for ladies who can afford to pay $5,500 on a phone, because that’s the price of a Gresso Lady Diamond.

The phone comes in a very limited edition: only 8 units are made. And while I do find it good-looking, I can’t help thinking that it’s way too expensive.

Of course, its high price is somehow justified by the materials the device is built from, including “high-tech ceramic of Magenta Diamond color”, 18K gold, 4 white diamonds (on the navigation keys) and genuine leather.

On the back of the phone, we can see the transparent sapphire crystal cover, which has become a trademark for Gresso devices.

    gresso-lady-diamond

    gresso-lady-diamond-2

When it comes to technical specs, the handset offers Windows Mobile 6 Standard, GSM/GPRS connectivity, Bluetooth, Music player, a 2MP camera and 2GB of onboard memory.

The Gresso Lady Diamond is available starting today, but it looks like you can get only from Russia.
