If you’re looking to talk about figures and statistics, LG certainly has one, and a rather impressive one at that. It seems that LG has sold more than 20 million QWERTY handsets worldwide, and if you take into consideration that QWERTY handsets are more of a niche product compared to normal phones, it’s certainly an impressive feat.

Nokia has released the beta for its Nokia Photo Browser, which is currently available for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It’s designed to allow users to easily browse and view images stored on their handsets and even has features like an intuitive touch user interface with 3D effects, magnifying glass and face browsing, which will allow users to focus on a particular face, and quickly browse to the other faces in the photo. The app will obviously work for the Nokia N97, and another version of the application should be released soon for Nokia’s non-touchscreen phones.

Only few days after we’ve heard Skype may be coming to iPhone, the service has now been confirmed not only for Apple’s smartphone, but also for the BlackBerry platform.
According to Reuters, Skype for iPhone and iPod touch will be available as of tomorrow (March 31), while BlackBerry users will be able to enjoy it starting May.
Most probably, the iPhone and BlackBerry Skype applications will have many of the features included in the desktop version.
So users should expect free Skype-to-Skype calling, instant messaging, low-rate Skype-to-mobile calling and so on.
All in all, after it reaches the iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones, Skype will be available for all major mobile platforms – including Java, Nokia’s handsets, Windows Mobile and Android.

Samsung must have really liked the response customizations of it’s aging F480 TouchWiz handset received.
So now they decided to apply the same trick to an even older handsets, and revive them to a new life.
They gonna do this again by partnering with cool and/or premium brands.
And the first phone is being launched in France, as a Samsung Airness G600 phone:

Samsung Airness G600 comes with 2.2” TFT LCD display, 5 megapixel camera, FM tuner, microSD memory card slot and TV output.
Samsung Airness will cost EUR199 before subsidies.

Quite many handsets from HTC’s 2009 line-up have appeared lately in unofficial documents, and now it’s time for even more.
If the info found at Tilt Mobility is legit, two of HTC’s Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphones – codenamed HTC Star and HTC SuperStar – will come with WVGA (480 x 800) displays. The Star will sport a 3.6 inch screen, while the SuperStar a 3.7 inch one.
HTC Star is said to have a Qualcomm 8250 chipset – and there’s nothing unusual here, as Qualcomm and HTC have been collaborating since, like, forever.
On the other hand, HTC SuperStar appears as featuring an nVidia AP16 chipset, which does sound promising.
Other devices that may come from the Taiwanese manufacturer are:
Now let’s hope that at least the Star and SuperStar will be confirmed by HTC.

Remember the UMTS patent that HTC has allegedly infringed in Germany?
Initially, IPCom, the company that sued HTC, won the trial against the Taiwanese handset maker, which was threatened with losing the right to sell 3G devices on the German market.
Well, now the initial patent infringement decision was suspended by a German court, so HTC can still commercialize its WinMo and Android handsets across the central European country.
However, the patent infringement will be further investigated, although HTC says that, in fact, the patent IPCom talks about is not even valid.

The two companies will be in front of a German court again, four weeks from now – when the whole matter will hopefully be settled.

Samsung Android phone was not the only Samsung handset to be presented at a dealer event in Amsterdam today.
Actually, it looks like Samsung presented its full 2009 touchscreen phone line-up for Europe, that includes about 10 unannounced devices.
Unfortunately, both the details about new phones, and the images of the handsets are extremely unclear and blurry:

Among the most interesting highlights of said event was Samsung Android phone we mentioned earlier.
Another one was Samsung Omnia HD running Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. No other details about this new phone were made public yet, but the specs shouldn’t be that different from the Symbian based Omnia HD.
Besides that, we know there will be at least two business class QWERTY sliders in the new Samsung line-up, and what seems to be the new high end photo focused device – which is probably a 12 mpx Samsung Pixon successor.
Stay tuned for more info as it emerges.

If this newly-leaked Sprint roadmap is legit, the second largest North American CDMA carrier will have at least 10 new handsets to offer in the upcoming months.
First of all – as expected – it’s said the Palm Pre will be introduced in the second quarter of 2009, thus in April, May or June.
Unsurprisingly, the Pre is targeted at “high-end consumers and business users who need to stay connected to their office and who will benefit from fast EV-DO rev. A data speeds and a full functional device.”

Next, Q2 2009 should also bring the following devices to Sprint:

In the third quarter of 2009, Sprint should release the following handsets:
There’s also the HTC Rhodium on Sprint’s roadmap. This is actually the HTC Touch Pro2 with EV-DO rev. A and HSDPA connectivity. It should be out in Q4 2009. What’s weird is that the Rhodium appears as running on “Windows 7.X”, although Windows Mobile 7 will only be launched in 2010.

Anyway, since for the moment we can’t confirm that all the above-mentioned devices will be indeed launched by Sprint, we can only wait for more official details to come up.

Only few days after we saw the Philips Xenium X530, we now have info about another new Philips clamshell: the Xenium X700.
Like most (if not all) Philips handsets, the X700 does not have 3G connectivity, so your data transfers will have to rely only on GPRS and EDGE.
However, there’s one big advantage that the phone offers - and that’s obviously the powerful battery, which can last up to 720 hours in stand-by (1 month), or up to 450 minutes in talk-time mode.
Here’s what the handset looks like:

The main specs and features of Xenium X700 include:
Philips Xenium X700 should be soon available in China and select European countries (like Russia, Romania and Turkey). Its retail price is said to be of around €170 ($220).

News is filtering out to the Internet that Windows Mobile 6.5 has now been made available for Microsoft employees. With the new beta program in place, it’s speculated that the software will be Released To Manufacturers (RTM) pretty soon, hinting that we will actually be able to see Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets in Q3 2009 after all.
