Firefox fans out there (who own a HTC Touch Pro anyways) can rejoice, as Mozilla has announced the first milestone release for Fennec, which is as we all know, the mobile version of Firefox. As we mentioned, the current build that they’re offering for download only supports HTC’s Touch Pro at the moment, so you’re out of luck if you’re using another phone. Hopefully this milestone release will help Mozilla get useful feedback on the browser and help them turn it into the final product sooner rather than later.

Mozilla foundation kept good on their promise to release the first version of Fennec mobile for HTC Touch Pro in February.

Today Mozilla’s Brad Lassey announced that first milestone release of Fennec for Windows Mobile is available for download.

The release is pre-alpha and intended for those early adopters who can handle it. It was made only for HTC Touch Pro and has significant limitations. Among them are graphics designed only for 300 dpi screen, control layout for VGA resolution, no soft keyboard support, no automatic updates and disabled plugin functionality.

Still, it’s good to see Fennec  moving along and I can’t wait for more mature WM versions, and especially Fennec for Symbian devices to be released.

Available until now only for Nokia’s N810 Internet Tablet, Mozilla Firefox Mobile (known under the codename Fennec) might be released pretty soon for Windows Mobile too.

The Mozilla Wiki webpage says that the company is “targeting a Milestone release for the first week of February, targeting the HTC Touch Pro.”

As you can see, not all WM handsets out there will be able to run Fennec starting February.

Even so, this is a good start for the mobile Firefox browser, and I guess it won’t be long until we get to see a full Windows Mobile version of it. 

Mozilla developers are probably working at this very moment for the Windows Mobile Fennec, so let’s wait for February and see what it will be like.
