LG has always been one of the manufacturers who emphasize fashion on their mobile phones, and now their latest Ambassador of Style is going to strengthen those beliefs. The company has enlisted Heidi Klum for said post, and will be offering 5 back plates designed by her for the LG Rumor2. LG has also created a print advertising campaign that depicts Klum painted in butterflies, similar to one of her back plate designs, which is certainly going to capture the attention of the men, at the very least.

It looks like Google’s Android isn’t going to be content to be available just on mobile phones, as it’s moving to netbooks as well. A Chinese company is looking to bring technology to children in developing countries with its Skytone line of products. The rumored price for its netbooks is $99, which is certainly interesting. Windows and Linux might just have a rather strong contender muscling its way into the netbook market, which can only be good for consumers.

You may or may not be familiar with groupware, but you’ve almost certainly worked in a group before, whether it’s for a project, or just for arranging an outing. It would certainly be great if everybody could collaborate on projects and plans via their mobile phones, and that looks exactly what Easy Meet by the folks from Nokia Beta Labs have come up with. According to the site, users will be able to:
File Sharing, supporting PPT, JPEG and PNG
Chat
Meeting Minutes
Whiteboard
Gesturing

Participant Awareness
Remote Content Access (OVI Files).
One click to join a conference, including voice conference
Now doesn’t that sound like something you could use in the workplace or in day to day work?

It’s a rather unorthodox way to smuggle things into prisons, but it seems like prisoners are quite creative. Guards have actually intercepted 2 carrier pigeons which were carrying mobile phones (and the phones’ respective chargers) to detainees at a prison in Sorocaba, 62 miles from Sao Paolo. Two birds were caught on two successive days, which were last Wednesday and Thursday. It seems a little weird, but you have to give credit to the detainees for orchestrating such a move.

There are certainly a lot of Symbian and Windows Mobile users who use fring on their mobile phones, and if you’re a Twitter user, you’ll have even more reason to smile. We say so because fring has just released the Twitter 2.0 add-on for both those platforms. Users who install this latest version will see notable improvements which include a revamped look, new keyword search capabilities and even the ability to open links that are included in the incoming Tweets. If you want some alone time, you’ll even be able to turn off the sound whenever a Tweet comes it, though most of you Twitter addicts will probably leave it on. Just a little advice for those of you who are planning to install the Twitter 2.0 add-on, you’ll want to unsubscribe from the previous version before attempting to subscribe to the new one.

Recent reports indicated that China Unicom would be getting Apple’s iPhone, and who wouldn’t think so, especially since they boldly put up images of the iPhone. Now it seems that the company’s chairman, Chang Xiaobing, states that negotiations are still ongoing, and they still have a couple of issues left to sort out. 2 of the main problems that they face are the Chinese law banning Wi-Fi use in mobile phones, and Unicom’s stubborn insistence of installing its own software for the iPhone, which supposedly has some non-iTunes media player. There’s no telling how long this debate will go on for. Speculation hints that it may not be until the end of the year till all the nitty gritty details are thrashed out.

While LG recently dabbled in the netbook market, it looks like the Korean cell phone maker has decided that it will stick to its strengths, and that’s coming up with cool mobile phones. The main focus of the company will be the low cost touch screen cell phone market, which means devices that are going for £100 without a contract, or free on £10/month contracts. Considering that LG recently signed an agreement with Microsoft to come up with 50 Windows Mobile phones over the next 3-years, it’s fairly safe to say that some of the phones that will be released by LG will be powered by Windows Mobile.

It looks like Nokia is really intent on driving mobile services, as Obopay has just announced an investment from Nokia, albeit with an undisclosed amount of money. Currently Obopay is capable for person-to-person money transfer via mobile devices, and also the ability to get instant access to money on the phone via a credit card. Such a move will certain spur developments for mobile services, and we’ll be buying more stuff from our mobile phones in the future.
