FCC has just approved the Samsung SGH-i637, a new handset that should hit AT&T in the near future.
We say this not only because the i637 is described by FCC as a “850/1900 GSM / GPRS / EDGE / WCDMA / HSDPA phone”, but also because it comes with Media FLO, AT&T’s mobile TV service.
Unfortunately, a proper picture with Samsung i637 is not yet available, but we do know that it will run on Windows Mobile. Also, the device has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, Music player and a 1,000 mAh battery.
Here’s a sketchy image with the handset’s back, in the well-known FCC style:

Samsung i637 might be something in the vein of Samsung Epix, although it looks a bit too narrow for sporting a full QWERTY keyboard. Anyway, we’ll see about that when AT&T decides to officially announce it.

It finally happened. After all the rumors, leaks and semi-official teases, LG has officially announced it will launch LG Arena KM900 flagship at MWC 09 in Barcelona.
In addition to the already published press picture of LG Arena KM900, official LG press release mentions several more details about the upcoming handset.
It confirms Wi-Fi and A-GPS capability on L- KM900. And reveals that LG Arena will support 7.2 MBps HSDPA data throughput.
It will also come with “Dolby and Divx technologies … and feature audio and video technologies never before seen on a mobile phone”, which sounds pretty interesting.

Well, these are all the hardware details acknowledged by LG today. They also sound pretty proud about their new 3D S-Class user interface:
A cube-based layout provides four customizable home screens for direct access to all features. Music, movies, pictures and more are within reach, thanks to intuitive, touch-based 3D menus. The rich 3D graphics give S-Class a life-like look that makes it natural and easy to navigate.

In addition to the full specs of Samsung Memoir, new details on LG Arena KM900 came out today.
Not a complete list of specs yet, but it’s getting there.

The phone also has mobile TV functionality, though we are not sure at the moment if it comes from a DVB-H tuner or directly through the UMTS data network.

Motorola Prizm (or MotoPrizm), the Korean edition of Motorola Krave ZN4, has just been launched in a new and good-looking orange version.
Coming shortly after the dark grey version released in December 2008, the orange Prizm offers similar features. And no, I’m not talking about features similar to the one of Verizon’s Krave ZN.
Motorola has blessed the Prizm with a 840 x 480 pixels touchscreen display, a 3MP camera and mobile TV capabilities.
And these surely make it better than the Krave, which only has a 240 x 400 pixels display and a 2MP camera.

Sadly, both of the MotoPrizm versions are Korea-exclusive products. But maybe, just maybe, Motorola will soon come with an orange Krave ZN4 too.

Looking for a cool waterproof phone? What about the Fujitsu F-01A? The phone is available from NTT DoCoMo and has a fingerprint sensor using AuthenTec’s revolutionary TouchStone packaging. The device will be powered by Symbian and can remain underwater (up to a meter) for about half an hour without you having to worry about it shorting out. While there isn’t any information on pricing or availability of this phone just yet, the phone is known to have the following specs:

5.2-megapixel camera with autofocus
Built-in GPS with Mobile Google Maps with Street View
e-Wallet mobile payment capability
1Seg mobile TV tuner
Complies with IPX5 and IPX7 specifications

We can’t say we really blame Fujitsu for thinking outside the box on their latest phone to be sold on NTT DoCoMo’s network. The Fujitsu F-01A, as it is being called, will be completely waterproof and secured by a fingerprint sensor.
Now, this certainly will appeal to every Japanese James Bond out there who happens to have a secret underwater Batcave, but perhaps it may appeal to other everyday folks as well. The fingerprint sensor, nicknamed TouchStone by AuthenTec, will allow all of your personal and corporate data to be secured in much the same way you would see a fingerprint sensor used in a movie.
The Press Release claims that most cell phone returns are due to moisture, and that “Fujitsu’s F-01A waterproof cell phone meets IPX5 and IPX7 specifications, making it capable of submersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.” Not bad, but will it go through the wash?

The F-01A will also feature a 3.5 inch touchscreen, 5.2 MP camera with autofocus, Symbian OS, GPS with Google Maps, and a tuner for mobile TV.
Let us know what you think in the comments. Is this a practical idea? Personally, we feel it’s refreshing to see new ideas out there. That’s where innovation comes from — thinking outside the box.

When people mention Google’s Android, the first thing that comes to mind is normally T-Mobile’s G1, but Google’ didn’t intend to keep the OS (operating system) to mobile devices only. Qualcomm has just demonstrated a Snapdragon-based reference prototype which is powered by Google’s Android. The device isn’t a slouch my any means, as it has a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU with integrated HSPA , 1080p high-definition support, Wi-Fi, mobile TV, WVGA display and GPS. The processors have been modified by Qualcomm to run at three-times their usual speed, but surprisingly it supposedly doesn’t use much power and the company even suggests that Snapdragon-based devices will be able to stay permanently connected to a data network.

The fact that Asus is planning to release at least one Android handset this year is no longer a surprise.
What might be surprising, though, is that the Taiwanese company also wants to come up with a handset under the Eee brand (you know, those small and affordable notebooks).
And to make it all even more interesting, this Eee Phone might be running on – yes – Android.
TechRadar reports that Johnny Shih, Asus’ CEO, talked about the company’s intention to build easy to use pocket-sized devices that:
“play MP3s, offer GPS services, work like a PDA and offer Mobile TV altogether.”

Now, if one of these devices is meant to run on Google’s open source OS and if it’s affordable and good looking, it will almost surely be a success.
Asus has also said it wants to bring Android to its Eee PCs, but I think an Android Eee Phone would be more interesting to see.
We might find out more about all this during CES 2009, so you’d better stick around.
