iPhone Pressuring Nintendo And Sony?

iPhone Pressuring Nintendo And Sony?

The popularity of Apple’s iPhone has changed so many things, like the popularity of full touchscreen phones, mobile phone applications, application stores and so many more. Now it seems that the iPhone might be affecting the games industry too, as Trip Hawkins, the person who started Electronic Arts, suggests that the platform is scaring Sony and Nintendo. Considering that every iPhone user out there now has a rather formidable gaming machine, albeit not one that might rival others in terms of pure gaming power, folks might be less compelled to buy a mobile gaming device, as the iPhone can already occupy then enough when on the go. Will portable gaming and cell phones be combined in the future? It certainly has some possibilities, don’t you think?

  • An Acer App Store In The Future?

An Acer App Store In The Future?

It seems everybody is copying Apple and coming up with their own version of the incredibly successful App Store. Hot on the heels of RIM, it looks like Acer is gearing up to prepare its own version of an online application store. The senior corporate vice president of Acer has mentioned that the company is “examining the viability of an app store”, though there was no confirmation that the company would take the plunge just yet. Judging by the popularity of Apple’s App Store, it’s certainly no surprise to see various companies consider joining the party.

    Windows Mobile 6.5 Widget Engine

Widgets are certainly the popular thing nowadays, as evidenced by its popularity on desktops and notebooks. To continue that trend, it looks like Windows Mobile 6.5 will not be spared either as it will be armed with a widget engine of its own, which allows applications to be built from HTML and Java Script to run using the IE 6 Mobile engine. These widgets will allow companies to come up with quick and simple methods for users to access specific services, such as tracking packages or monitoring auctions on eBay.

  • Mobile-review continue their raids on some secret vault with press pics of upcoming Motorola phone models.

This time it’s turn for Motorola A455 (Rush2) QWERTY slider that is headed for Verizon network.

As usual, not much info on the actual specs of Motorola Rush 2 A455. But available press pics show an interesting device, which, with current popularity of messaging phones, can actually do quite well.

If it is released within reasonable timeframe, not in 2010.

From the available pictures we can see that Motorola Rush 2 A455 will be a CDMA/EV-DO phone with navigation services, Bluetooth and built-in camera of some sort. The dialer app also indicates that MOTO Rush 2 will have a touchscreen.

  • Do you love the idea of reading books on your phone and hate the idea of spending loads of cash on a Kindle? Soon, Amazon hopes to bring you the best of both worlds.

Amazon, which is already expected to expand its Kindle brand to a new model sometime soon, has just made known its intent to also bring Kindle books to the mobile phone world.

The company has not announced which phones the Kindle collection will be offered on, and we are eager to hear. Frankly, we anticipate the iPhone to be one of the first phones since firstly Amazon already has an app available on the App Store, and secondly because of the popularity of iPhone e-book readers. It would be the perfect market to test out.

The only known fact at this point is that Amazon is planning on bringing the Kindle book collection to phones. Of course, we will be on top of this story and bring you the latest updates.

Question for the comments: When this is offered on your phone, will you be stepping up to purchase Kindle books?

  • With Android gaining more and more popularity, Windows Mobile’s future may not look as bright as Microsoft wants to see it. And unless the Redmond company comes quickly with a new and revolutionary edition of its mobile OS, WM could suffer a serious market share loss.

I’m sure you already know that Microsoft has two versions of its mobile platform in the making: Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7.

While WM 6.5 will probably not bring many changes when compared to the 6.1 version, WM 7 is expected to be Microsoft’s truly innovative OS.

According to ZDNet, Windows Mobile 7.0 might be released to testers in November 2009, while the first handsets to run the upcoming OS could be outed in April 2010.

    windows-mobile-65

Of course, until then, WM 6.5 should be released, and it’s said that this will happen in April 2009, with the first devices launched starting September 2009.

For the moment, there are no clear details on what WM 6.5 and WM 7 can bring, but as long as it’s new and useful stuff, we’ll all be happy campers.

    Truphone For Google Android

The upcoming release of the T-Mobile G1 in Germany should help boost the popularity of Android software, and we now have a version of Truphone for the T-Mobile G1 client. This nifty app is a free download from the Android Market and will provide free VoIP calls over Wi-Fi between Truphone users. It also supports IM with Yahoo, Msn Google and others. While it certainly isn’t a essential app, you start to think about the fun you’d have with your G1 if it had this.

    iGirl For Your iPhone

It was inevitable. With the popularity of Apple’s iPhone and the App Store, it really shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody to see an iGirl application show up and sell for $1.99. As the name implies, the program gives you a female avatar on your phone, and you can make her dance, shake, change her clothes, ethnicity and even what language she speaks. It’s kind of like having a female Tamagotchi on your iPhone, except that you won’t have to feed it. Your girlfriend probably wouldn’t be too happy if you bought this.
