Just another Cellphones News weblog

Alongside the 8MP Sony Ericsson CS8 (aka C905a), T-Mobile USA will also launch the CS5 – another camera phone made by SE.

Apparently, Sony Ericsson CS5 is a North American version of the C903 Cyber-shot (pictured below), which we first saw back in February.

In consequence, T-Mo’s users should expect the CS5 to come with a 5MP dual-LED flash camera, a QVGA display, 3G, GPS and TV out.

According to CellPhoneSignal, T-Mobile will release the Sony Ericsson CS8 on June 24, while the CS5 should hit the shelves on July 8.

No word yet on pricing, but the CS8 will most probably be more expensive than the CS5.

  • Without much fanfare, Nokia has just announced its newest Eseries smartphone, the Nokia E52.

If you expect a revolutionary design from the E52, don’t. The new phone is just an E55 without a QWERTY keypad. So, yeah, it’s a slim candybar with a 2.4 inch QVGA display.

Like the E55, Nokia E52 is said to have an “impressive battery life” which should provide a talk-time of up to 8 hours with a single full-charge. It also comes with GPS, a 3.2MP camera, Ovi Services, noise cancellation and “the new email UI from the Nokia E75”.

Moreover, Nokia E52 supports HSDPA for up to 10.2Mbps and HSUPA for up to 2Mbps.

The handset has two color versions, silver and brown (like the 5MP E71i, perhaps):

Nokia said the E52 would be available starting the second half of the year, for a retail price of around €245 ($325).

Here’s a hands-on video with the Nokia E52, from Nokia Conversations:

  • Already available in the US, Motorola Hint QA30 will soon be introduced in Canada as well, via Bell Mobility.

Reportedly, the second largest Canadian carrier will start selling the Hint QA30 on April 9, for as low as $129.95 (with a three year contract agreement). Sans contract, the handset should be available for $329.95.

In case you don’t know yet, Hint QA30 is Motorola’s first slider to come with a full QWERTY keypad.

Other than that, the phone features stuff like a QVGA display, GPS, Email, Web browser, Bluetooth, a 2MP camera and memory expansion slot (up to 8GB).

All in all, if you text a lot while on the go and don’t mind having a square-ish handset in your pocket, Motorola Hint QA30 may be a good choice for you.

According to a recently listing at Bluetooth SIG, HTC’s new BlackBerry-esque Windows Mobile smartphone is just about ready to be released. We’re talking about the HTC Maple, which will supposedly sport a 2.4-inch QVGA display, Qualcomm 7228 processor closed at 528MHz, 2.0 megapixel camera, and 156MB RAM/256MB ROM. If the rumblings are correct, HTC will be showcasing this device at CTIA, which will start on Monday.

  • Nokia E55 to come in red too

Last week, when Nokia officially announced the ultrathin Nokia E55, the smartphone only appeared in two color versions: black and white.

But the Finnish manufacturer also has a red E55, or at least that’s what some new leaked pictures lead us to believe.

Spotted at mobile.mail.ru, the pictures show the half-QWERTY handset dressed in the above-mentioned color and, well, it does look pretty.

So it seems that Nokia’s really into red when it comes to Eseries handsets, since we also have a red E71, a red E75 and a (partially) red E63.

    nokia-e55-red-2

    nokia-e55-red-1

    nokia-e55-red-3

Presented by Nokia as “the world’s most compact messaging device”, the E55 runs on Symbian S60 3.2 Edition and features stuff like Wi-Fi, a 2.4 inch QVGA display with 16 million colors, digital compass, a 3.5mm headset jack and a 3.2MP autofocus camera.

And although it measures only 9.9 mm in thickness, the smartphone packs a 1500 mAh battery said to provide up to 8 hours of talk-time or up to 30 days of stand-by time.

Nokia E55 should be available starting the second quarter of 2009, for the retail price of 265 Euros (about $336). However, it’s not clear yet if the red version will be on sale at the same time with the black and white ones.

For a live look at it, check out our Nokia E55 video preview.

U.S. Cellular will be offering the LG Wine, which is a pretty looking clamshell with a small external 1.3-inch display. While the phone might lack EV-DO support, it does have GPS, which can be displayed on its 2.2-inch QVGA display. To top it off, the phone also has a 1.3 megapixel camera. The LG Wine will be available in either red or silver, and will be going for $30 with a contract and after a mail-in rebate.

  • Helio Ocean 2, the handset that’s been in the rumor mill since the spring of 2007, could be finally released this quarter.

You probably already know that, following the Virgin Mobile acquisition, Helio is now known as Helio by Virgin Mobile. In consequence, the Ocean 2 will come out under this brand.

Silicon Alley Insider says that, according to a Virgin Mobile rep, the new Ocean might go on sale starting February.

Like the first-generation Ocean, Helio Ocean 2 will have a QWERTY and an alphanumeric keyboard. Apart from that, it’s said that the handset also sports a QVGA display, 3G connectivity, full HTML browser and external memory slot.

No word yet about the price of Helio Ocean 2, but, hopefully, this won’t be a high one. Otherwise, I don’t think the handset will stand a chance against the likes of Palm Pre, BlackBerry Bold or T-Mobile G1.
